Belleville Sens celebrated plenty of milestones and achievements in 2024-25

April 28, 2025

With the 2024-25 American Hockey League regular season now finished, Belleville Sens fans are beginning to look back and reflect on what was a challenging but rewarding season. The eighth season of AHL action in the “Friendly City” may not have finished with a playoff run, but it did see the club and players mark many different milestones and achievements throughout the season.

Check back to this page daily, as we share and relive some of those moments and milestones from the 2024-25 season:

Cole Reinhardt – Most games played in franchise history

Playing his fifth American Hockey League season (and fifth with the Senators) 2024–25, Cole Reinhardt continued to cement his legacy in Belleville, etching his name into Belleville Sens history by becoming the franchise leader in games played. Entering the season with 225 games, he surpassed the previous record of 240 by playing his 241st game on February 1, 2025, highlighting his durability and commitment to the team. Despite spending parts of the season with the Ottawa Senators—where he appeared in 17 NHL games, recording a goal and an assist—Reinhardt remained a pivotal figure in Belleville. In 45 AHL games this season, he tallied 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) and led Belleville Sens forwards with a +10 rating, showcasing his two-way prowess.

Angus Crookshank – Most Goals in franchise history

A fixture on the Belleville Sens roster for the past five seasons Angus Crookshank continued to be a pivotal piece of the Belleville offence this season. The North Vancouver, BC native finished the campaign with 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists) in 62 games. It was the third consecutive season that Crookshank has crossed the 20-goal and 40-point plateaus. Crookshank’s 22nd goal of the season, scored on March 21, 2025, in a 3-2 win over the Toronto Marlies, was the 77th of his career and made him Belleville’s all-time leader in goals scored, passing former Sens forward Egor Sokolov. Crookshank also appeared in eight NHL games with the Ottawa Senators this season, picking up one assist.

Stephen Halliday – Belleville Sens Rookie of the Year

Stephen Halliday’s rookie season with the Belleville Senators in the AHL was marked by significant growth and impressive performances. After joining the team at the end of the 2023-24 season and recording five assists in 10 regular season games, plus nine points (seven goals, two assists) in seven playoff games, Halliday had a modest start to his first full year in the AHL in 2024-25. Halliday accumulated five points in his first 14 games this season, but eventually found his stride, recording 14 points over the next 13 games, including an eight-game point streak. By late February 2025, he led the team in points and would hold that record through the end of the season, finishing with 51 points (19 goals, 32 assists). His consistent contributions, including 10 multi-point games this season, have highlighted his playmaking abilities and development has positioning him as a strong candidate for an NHL stint out of next season’s training camp, or sometime in 2025-26.

Jeremy Davies – First all-star selection and Belleville Sens Defenceman of the Year

Defenceman Jeremy Davies had a standout 2024–25 season with the Belleville Senators, his first with the club, which included earning his first career AHL All-Star selection. In his debut season with Belleville after signing a one-year, two-way contract, the 28-year-old defenceman finished the season tied for second in team scoring with 48 points (11 goals, 37 assists) and was the only Belleville skater to dress in all 72 games this season, plus his appearance at the AHL All-Star Classic in Coachella Valley, California, in February. Among his notable accomplishments this season, Davies set a new personal best for AHL points (48) and assists (37) in a single season, placing him among the top blueliners in the league. Davies finished the season fifth in points and tied for fourth in assists among AHL defencemen. Davies also played his 300th career AHL game, with a two-goal performance against the Hartford Wolf Pack on January 29. Beyond his on-ice contributions, he served as an alternate captain, playing a key role in the team’s leadership and culture. Davies’ exceptional season not only highlighted his individual growth but also underscored his integral role in Belleville’s success.

Leevi Merilainen – Most shutouts in franchise history and most shutouts in a season

Good teams don’t have success without good goaltending, and that’s exactly what Leevi Merilainen provided during the 2024–25 AHL season, delivering a standout performance, culminating in a new franchise record for career shutouts. Meriläinen achieved his fifth career shutout—and third of the season—making 34 saves during a 3–0 victory over the Utica Comets on February 17, 2025, surpassing the previous franchise mark of four shutouts, set by Filip Gustavsson. His consistent excellence, which included two more clean sheets before the end of the season, earned him the team’s Most Valuable Player award, as he posted a 2.37 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage, and 18 wins over 37 games.  Meriläinen’s composure and reliability between the pipes were instrumental in Belleville’s playoff push, solidifying his role as a cornerstone of the team’s success.
