Game Day Build-Up: Homestand continues as Senators wrap back-to-back set with Hershey

January 25, 2025

Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up
Jan.25/25 vs Hershey Bears (AHL Affiliate: Washington Capitals)

The Set Up:

The Belleville Senators and Hershey Bears may play in different divisions, but they’ve been getting very familiar with each other over the last week. Just a day after Belleville evened the season series at a game apiece, with a 4-3 overtime win at CAA Arena, the Sens and Bears will battle again in the Friendly City as Belleville continues a three-game homestand. As Head Coach Dave Bell had said they would need to be, the Senators were much more connected in Friday’s victory than their defeat in Hershey a week ago, showing again that Belleville can compete with anyone in the American Hockey League when the game plan is executed. Most importantly, Friday’s win and a Syracuse loss helped the Sens gain a couple more points on the climb up the North Division Standings as the midway point of the season approaches. Belleville enters tonight’s matchup six points back of the Crunch, while Hershey still holds a seven-point lead atop the Atlantic.

Previous History:

Tonight’s matchup marks the 15th all-time meeting between Belleville and Hershey, with Friday night’s win tying the season series at 1-1 and improving the Senators’ overall record against the Bears to 6-7-0-1 and 2-5-0-0 on home ice. The two teams will finish off their four-game season series in early March when the Senators head back to Pennsylvania, meeting up at Giant Center on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Belleville is 4-2-0-1 lifetime in Hershey.

Roster Notes:

The Senators announced no transactions between the end of Friday’s game and this morning.. As of this morning, defenceman Wyatte Wylie, goaltenders Malcolm Subban and Mads Sogaard, and forward Tyler Boucher all remain on the injured list. Forward Sam Gagner, defender Kris Myllari, and goaltender Mark Sinclair all remain with the Senators on professional tryouts. Who to Watch:

Belleville forward Stephen Halliday has scored some big goals in his young American Hockey League career, but last night’s overtime winner has to be near the top of the list. The 22-year-old former Ohio State University Buckeyes standout had a goal and an assist last night to record his fifth multi-point game of the season and is sitting inside the top five in AHL rookie scoring with 26 points. Also yesterday, Angus Crookshank scored and extended his point streak to four games (two goals, two assists). Jamieson Rees and Oskar Pettersson each had two-point nights (one goal, one assist), while Sam Gagner picked up an assist in his Belleville Sens debut, and defender Kris Myllari notched his first AHL assist.

Hershey forward Matt Strome was the standout in Friday’s loss, registering a goal and an assist, along with three shots on net and a plus-two rating. The former Ontario Hockey League champion with the Hamilton (now Brantford) Bulldogs has three points (one goal, two assists) in three games against Belleville this season. Bears defender Nicky Leiverman scored his first AHL goal on Friday.

At the Rink:

Tonight is Teacher Appreciation Night at CAA Arena as the Senators recognize and celebrate the accomplishments, commitment, and dedication of educators across the Quinte Region.
