game day Share this Game Day Build-Up: Senators and Monsters battle for critical playoff points on Next Gen Game March 23, 2025 Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up Mar.23/25 vs Cleveland Monsters (Columbus Blue Jackets) The Set Up: While their three-game win streak may have been snapped in Toronto yesterday, the Belleville Senators can extend their 10-game home point streak and jump back into a North Division playoff spot if they can knock off the visiting Cleveland Monsters at CAA Arena this afternoon. The Senators wrap up their three-in-three weekend against not only another divisional foe but a team that they trail in the standings by just two points and also hold the first tiebreaker against. That means a Belleville victory would put them back into fifth place with a dozen games to go after tonight. The Monsters, meanwhile, are not as fierce as they’ve been at times this season. Winners of 10 straight and division leaders back in November, Cleveland has slipped to the cusp of the playoff cutline and has lost five of their last six, including a 6-0 shutout in Laval last night. Previous History: The Senators and Monsters met twice in Cleveland last month in two dramatic 2-1 extra-time games, both won by Belleville. Belleville’s shootout and overtime wins at Rocket Arena improved their lifetime record against Cleveland to 14-14-0-2, with a mark of 7-5-0-2 on home ice, not counting their four-game Calder Cup Playoff series last season. The Sens and Monsters will finish their four-game 2024-25 season series this coming Wednesday at CAA Arena. Roster Notes: With an early start this afternoon, lineup details are not yet available, though it’s expected the Senators will be without forward Zack MacEwen who left last night’s game hurt. You can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions, with full lineup details ahead of game time via the Belleville Sens social channels (@BellevilleSens). Who to Watch: Senators defenceman Wyatte Wylie extended his point streak to four games (two goals four assists) in Toronto yesterday, notching another assist. The first-year Senator from Everett Washington has been a steady presence on the back-end all season long, and has been impactful in his offensive contributions as well. Belleville is 4-0-0-0 when Wylie scores and 7-2-1-0 when he has a point. Belleville’s “other Wyatt”, forward Wyatt Bongiovanni also had another assist last night, to put him on a three-game point streak (one goal, two assists). Cleveland were shutout in Laval yesterday, meaning no Monsters are bringing notable streaks into today’s game. Veteran forward Rocco Grimaldi is among the league’s top point-getters, with 50 in 55 games this season, though he was pointless in one game against Belleville last month. Forwards Trey Fix-Wolansky and Dylan Gambrell were the only Monsters to score against Belleville in their previous two meetings this season. At the Rink: Today is the Belleville Senators first ever Next Gen Game celebrating the future of hockey on and off the ice. The Sens will be joined by young fans helping out with the in-arena hosting, public address announcing, and broadcast, while the players hit the ice in fan-designed uniforms. Those jerseys will be auctioned off via DASH Online Auctions with proceeds supporting Belleville Senators Community programs like Sens in School, BP Buddies, and others. Fans can also take advantage of our Next Gen Merchandise Sale including buy-one-get-one mini sticks, 25% off kids apparel, and more. Those deals are available at the Locker Room Store in the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre, the Gate 2 Merchandise Stand or online at shop.bellevillesens.com.
