game day Share this Game Day Build-Up: Senators seek revenge in rematch with Rocket November 9, 2024 Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up Nov.9/24 vs Laval Rocket (NHL Affiliate: Laval Rocket) The Set-Up It was edge-of-your-seat hockey between the Belleville Senators and Laval Rocket on Friday night in front of a little more than 3,000 spectators, many of them wearing camouflage for Military Appreciation Night that ended on the losing end for the home side. Belleville had three separate one-goal leads, but couldn’t hold on as the Rocket came back to tie the score each time and then won it in the shootout on Logan Mailloux’s fourth-round winner. Belleville got a pair of goals from Angus Crookshank, a first AHL regular season marker and an assist from Stephen Halliday, and two helpers from Jeremy Davies in the defeat. Previous History The Rocket took the first of 10 meetings between the two North Division rivals on Friday night. With last night’s triumph, Laval picked up its eighth straight victory, the most consecutive wins in the AHL this season so far, and earned its 22nd lifetime victory over Belleville. Who to Watch Angus Crookshank scored two goals in back-to-back games versus Syracuse last Saturday and last night against Laval. That brings his recorded point total to 116 in his career, putting him into a tie with Drake Batherson for second in franchise history, and 64 behind all-time leader and former teammate Egor Sokolov (180). The North Vancouver, British Columbia native will also be suiting up for his 150th AHL game tonight. All of them are with Belleville. Garrett Pilon and Cole Reinhardt upped their current point-streaks to four games each last night. Port Hope’s Owen Beck added to his three-game point streak with an assist on Luke Tuch’s tying goal last night, and is up to nine points in his first full professional season. The Quinte Red Devils graduate has a growing list of accolades in his young career with a OHL championship and Memorial Cup appearance with the Peterborough Petes, a Memorial Cup title with the Saginaw Spirit, a World Junior gold medal with Team Canada and an NHL game under his belt with the Montreal Canadiens. Also, Alex Barre-Boulet scored once during last night’s game and once in the shootout in his 300th AHL game. Roster Notes The crease likely will look different tonight with Malcolm Subban projected to make his first start as a Belleville Senator. The former Belleville Bull was let go from the Grand Rapids Griffins earlier this season and needed to make five saves on six shots, along with a couple of stops in the shootout in a late relief appearance for Leevi Merilainen last night. It’s unclear if Merilainen will be okay to dress tonight after leaving with what head coach David Bell described as a ‘tweak’ suffered while making a save. Full lineup details will be announced closer to puck drop. At The Rink Loyalist College will take centre stage with several current students and alumni coming together to commiserate and cheer on the Sens at tonight’s game.
