Game Day Build-Up: Senators welcome Laval for 2023-24 Home Opener presented by CAA

October 21, 2023

Belleville Sens Game Day Build-Up
Oct.21/23 vs Laval Rocket (NHL Affiliate: Montreal Canadiens)

The Set-Up:

A long week of practice and preparation is over and the Belleville Senators will get to hit the ice in front of their home fans tonight, for the Home Opener presented by CAA. The Senators are coming off an opening weekend road split last week, with a shutout victory on opening night in Hershey, followed by a loss in Lehigh Valley that saw Belleville give up three shorthanded goals. On the flip side, the Rocket have been slow to get off the launchpad early in the season. They picked up their first win of the season to Rochester last night, to go along with two losses and an overtime defeat over their season-opening four-game homestand.

Previous History:

This is the first of 12 meetings between Belleville and Laval this season, if you don’t count the Sens 5-2 loss in Laval during the preseason. Last season, Belleville was 9-3-0-0 against Laval, with a 38-27-1-2 record over 68 lifetime meetings. Over that span, the Sens are 21-11-0-2 against the Rocket at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

It’s early in the season, but the roster movement throughout the organization has already begun. Earlier this week, forward Philippe Daoust and defenceman Donovan Sebrango were assigned by the Senators to the Allen Americans, their ECHL affiliate in Texas. Then on Friday evening, defenceman Jacob Bernard-Docker was recalled to Ottawa, while forward Zack MacEwen cleared waivers and will join the AHL Sens in Belleville. Full lineup information for tonight’s game will be available prior to puck drop.

Who to Watch:

Forwards Cole Reinhardt and Garrett Pilon are Belleville’s early-season points leaders. They each notched a goal and an assist over opening weekend. Many fans will likely be looking to see how Mads Sogaard fares tonight, after pitching a 30 save shutout in the season opener in Hershey last weekend. For Laval, Joshua Roy has been off to an incredible start picking up nine points (five goals, four assists), including a hat-trick and two assists last night.

At the rink:

Don’t forget with tonight being the Home Opener presented by CAA, there’s lots happening at the rink pregame. Starting at 4:00 p.m., fans can meet their favourite Belleville Sens players on the red carpet. Also at 4:00 p.m. the Kids Zone in the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre gymnasium opens, featuring games, inflatables, a magic show, and more. CAA members should remember to bring their CAA card with them, to get exclusive access to the CAA Members Lounge. You can click here to see more of what’s new at CAA Arena this season.
