WEEKLY RECAP

WEEKLY RECAP: Belleville Sens maintain ground in postseason pursuit

March 28, 2022

The Belleville Senators (30-24-3-0) placed themselves back in playoff position and currently sit fifth in the American Hockey League’s North Division, following another successful week which saw the AHL Sens turn a pair of nail-biting contests into shootout wins against the Laval Rocket and Lehigh Valley Phantoms. A hard-fought loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins separated the dramatic victories. Nevertheless, the resilient B-Sens managed to gain ground in their pursuit for the postseason. The Rochester Americans are currently the club’s closest competitor for the final playoff berth in the Divison with a slightly lower point percentage of (0.548) than Belleville’s (0.553).

Results

Wednesday, Mar. 23 – Belleville – 2 vs. Laval – 1 (HIGHLIGHTS)

Jake Lucchini and Egor Sokolov scored in the shootout to help secure Belleville a 2-1 shootout victory over the Laval Rocket. In net, Mads Sogaard continued his strong play stopping both shootout attempts after making 29 saves through regulation and overtime.

Friday, Mar. 25 – Belleville – 1 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton – 3 (HIGHLIGHTS)

On Friday night, Belleville would be stifled by a pesky Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins team who scored twice in the third, including an empty netter to earn a 3-1 win, cheating the Senators out of a perfect week.

Saturday, Mar. 26 – Belleville – 3 vs Lehigh Valley – 2 (HIGHLIGHTS)

Belleville battled back from a two-goal deficit and killed off a penalty in overtime, en route to a 3-2 shootout victory. The victory gave the Senators a 10-4-0-0 record against the Atlantic Division and kept their shootout record at a perfect 5-0 on the season.
