game day Share this Game Day Build-Up: Sens square off with Isles for pair of games in Bridgeport November 30, 2024 Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up Nov.30/24 Bridgeport Islanders (NHL Affiliate: New York Islanders) The Set Up: As they try to put a Wednesday defeat in Syracuse behind them and end the month of November in the win column, the Belleville Senator’s five-game road trip brings them into Bridgeport, Connecticut, to take on an Islanders team that’s looking to right its ship as well. Belleville’s mid-week loss was their worst of the season so far and also marked the first time the Sens have lost back-to-back games in regulation, with Captain Garrett Pilon saying frankly after the game that the effort wasn’t good enough. This weekend set provides an opportunity for the Senators to change that perspective with a couple more solid road outings against the Islanders, who are trying to shore up their defence and improve on a home record that’s seen them earn just four points in eight games. Previous History: The AHL affiliates of the Senators and Islanders will play each other more this season than they have since the Sens moved to Belleville in 2017-18. Belleville and Bridgeport have met twice per season in every campaign except 2020-21, but they’ll meet four times in 2024/25—twice this weekend and then twice more in March at CAA Arena. Last season, the home team won both contests by 4-2 margins. Belleville’s lifetime record against Bridgeport is 5-7-0-0, with a mark of 2-4-0-0 at Total Mortage Arena. Roster Notes: Belleville still has multiple players with the NHL Senators on their California road trip this weekend, including forwards Cole Reinhardt, Zack Ostapchuk, and defenceman Donovan Sebrango. A full list of up-to-date transactions can be found by clicking here, with full lineup details available via the B-Sens social channels (@bellevillesens) before the game. Who to Watch: Belleville Captain Garrett Pilon has been leading with not just his voice but his play as well. With Cole Reinhardt in Ottawa, the seventh-year pro is Belleville’s active leading scorer this season with 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) in 15 games and had three shots on net Wednesday in Syracuse. Pilon was also Belleville’s most productive player against Bridgeport last season, collecting three points (two goals, one assist) in two games. While it’s not clear if he’ll start tonight or not, Belleville Sens fans will definitely remember one player in the Bridgeport lineup and will likely see him this weekend, that being goaltender Marcus Högberg. The Swedish netminder played four seasons in Belleville before returning to Europe and suited up in 74 games for Belleville between 2017 and 2021. He sits third on almost all of Belleville’s all-time goaltending stat lists (2.65 GAA, .909 SV%, 3 SO, 36 wins) and is first on all of the club’s major season-best records for goaltenders, setting those marks in 2018-19 (Most Games Played: 39, GAA: 2.32, Save %: .917, Wins: 21, and Shutouts: 2 (T-1st). He arrives back in North America this season after signing a two-year contract with the New York Islanders this past summer.
