Gabriel Pizza Gameday Build-Up: Senators eye weekend sweep in playoff push

March 28, 2026

Saturday March 28, 2026, vs. Manitoba Moose (NHL Affiliate: Winnipeg Jets)

The Set Up

In what was an all-around team effort on Friday night, the Belleville Senators are looking to sweep the weekend set as they continue their playoff push. A 5–0 final at CAA Arena saw the Senators pick up a crucial two points, powered by an Arthur Kaliyev hat trick and a Leevi Merilainen shutout. Additional goals came from Tomas Hamara and Philippe Daoust, while Samuel Bolduc and Graeme Clarke each recorded two-assist nights. With the win, the Senators now sit at 59 points with a 25-30-8-1 record. In terms of the playoff outlook, the B-Sens remain four points back, as the Americans took points with a win over the Marlies last night. Postgame, interim head coach Andrew Campbell noted the team’s strong pace throughout the game: “Once we got that first goal, we found our life and energy. From that point forward, out guys played really well. We checked well”…”it was just a pretty solid effort from everybody” When asked about his 26-save performance, Leevi Merilainen described it as business as usual: “I just tried to play my game. I think the guys did a really good job of boxing out and letting me see the puck. Not too many odd man rushes or grade A chances so it was a an easier one for me today”. The Senators will need the same energy tonight for another two points as the Moose will be looking to bounce back after a lacklustre showing.

Previous History

With the win on Friday evening, the Senators now lead the season series 2-1-0-0, and with another victory today, they can take the regular-season matchup. Through three games, the Senators have been outshot 94–86 by the Moose but hold an 11–7 edge in goals. The Senators’ penalty kill continues to be effective, going 6-for-8 (75%) against Manitoba, while the power play is operating at 15.4% (2-for-13).

Roster Notes

After several changes over the past days and weeks, there are no roster moves to note as of this morning. In his return from injury on Friday night, Cam Crotty had a productive outing, recording one assist, two shots on goal, and a plus-one rating. The injury list stays the same with Keean Washkurak still out of the lineup as he recovers from his ailment. Full roster and lineup details will be available closer to puck drop on the Sens’ social media channels (@BellevilleSens).

Who to Watch

Cam Crotty returned to the lineup last night after missing sixteen games due to injury, making an immediate impact with an assist in his first game back. The Ottawa, Ontario native in forty-nine games has recorded three goals and seven assists for 10 points this season, providing reliable play from the back end. Known for his steady presence and professionalism, Crotty brings a calming influence to the defensive group. As he works back into full form, his consistency and veteran approach will be an important asset as the team continues through a critical stretch of the season.

Mason Shaw continues to serve as a key leader for the Moose, captaining the group through a tight playoff race. Despite the goose egg by the Moose in yesterday’s game against the Senators, Shaw has been a consistent offensive contributor this season, recording 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 60 games. His energy, competitiveness, and leadership set the tone for his team, and with the Moose pushing for position, he will be expected to respond tonight and drive a strong bounce-back effort.
