Gabriel Pizza Gameday Build-Up: Sens welcome Amerks to CAA Arena for another Winning Wednesday

The set-up:

The Belleville Senators are back in the win column and looking to get on a positive run in the final six games before the Holiday Break. The Sens got some payback on the Laval Rocket last Saturday, beating them 4-3, and will host the Rochester Americans at CAA Arena tonight with a chance to knock off another divisional rival and take advantage of this extended stay on home ice. Rochester had an outstanding start to the season, winning seven of nine games in October, then only earned three victories in 11 contests in November, but has points in all four games in December (2-0-2-0). The Sens are still fourth in the North Division standings and trail the second-place Amerks by four points, with a two-point lead on Toronto and Cleveland, who sit in fifth and sixth, respectively, but are tied on points.

Previous History:

The Sens have one win and one loss against Rochester over the first two games of their eight-game season series in 2025-26. Belleville fell 4-1 at home to the Amerks in late October, then slapped back with a 6-4 win at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester in mid-November. Lifetime against Rochester, Belleville is 28-18-5-1 in 52 meetings, with a record of 11-10-4-1 at CAA Arena. The Sens and Amerks will meet again in Rochester next Friday (December 19), before playing twice more in January, once in February, and rounding out the season series in April.

Roster Notes:

There’s been a bit of back and forth between Belleville and Ottawa in recent days, with forwards Hayden Hodgson and Olle Lycksell both being recalled to the NHL briefly. Both have since been returned this to Belleville, with Lycksell being loaned back to the AHL Sens this morning. Forward Stephen Halliday, defenceman Dennis Gilbert, and goaltender Leevi Merilainen are the only players in Ottawa currently who have also suited up for Belleville this season. Goaltender Hunter Shepard was skating this week, but is still listed as injured, as are rookie defenceman Matt Andonovski and forward Tyler Boucher. Who to Watch:

Forward Phil Daoust continues to have a season to remember for Belleville, already surpassing his career high for points in a season of 22 (six goals, 16 assists) set over 52 games played in 2024-25. So far this season, the 24-year-old from Barrie, Ontario has 23 points (six goals, seven assists) over 25 games. Daoust is one of just five Belleville players to dress in every game so far this season, along with Cam Crotty, Jorian Donovan, and Xavier Bourgault.

Luckily for the Senators, Rochester forward Isaak Rosen was recalled to NHL Buffalo last night, so they won’t have to deal with the skilled forward who’s on a nine-game AHL point streak (six goals, seven assists). However, they will have to slow down winger Carson Meyer (two goals, three assists) and centre Konsta Helenius (three goals, one assist) who are each on four-game point streaks. winger Anton Wahlberg has three assists in his last two games as well.
