Gabriel Pizza Gameday Build-Up: Stakes rising as Senators face Wolf Pack

February 21, 2026

Saturday February 21, 2026 vs Hartford Wolfpack (NHL Affiliate: New York Rangers)

The Set Up:

oming off a tough 5–2 loss last night in Providence at the hands of the Bruins, the Senators are looking to reset against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Arthur Kaliyev snapped his four-game pointless streak, scoring Belleville’s first goal, followed by a shorthanded tally from Olle Lycksell. Unfortunately, that was all the Senators could muster in the contest. The Wolf Pack suffered the same fate last night, dropping a 2–1 decision to the Utica Comets, with all three goals coming in the third period. Their lone goal coming from Juuso Parssinen, while newly signed Travis Dermott and Anton Blidh recorded the assists. It has not been a very successful year in Hartford, as the Pack sit last in the Atlantic Division at 17-25-4-2 (40 points) through 48 games. This seasons struggle was especially evident in a recent 9-0 loss to the Charlotte Checkers on Monday, during which Hartford was limited to 20 shots. With many of their young stars getting reps with the big club in New York, Trey Fix-Wolansky, Justin Dowling, and Derrick Pouliot have carried much of the load for Hartford. Dylan Garand stands out as one of the few young players remaining, posting a solid .916 save percentage over his last three games, stopping 76 of 83 shots during that span. This upcoming stretch will be crucial for Belleville in keeping playoff hopes alive, as the next five games come against Hartford and Utica, two of the lowest teams in the AHL by winning percentage. Points are critical, and the stakes are even higher as the second game of this back-to-back gets underway in Connecticut.

Previous History:

The Senators and Wolf Pack have met only once this season, with Belleville taking the lone matchup 2–1 on November 8th. The goal scorers were Arthur Kaliyev and Philippe Daoust, while Wolf Pack forward Dylan Roobroeck recorded Hartford’s only tally. Belleville is 0-0-0-0 all-time against Hartford, while last year’s season series finished 1-1-0-0.

Roster Notes:

Heading into this back-to-back, there are no roster moves to report for the Belleville Senators. Forward Keean Washkurak is nearing the end of his six-game suspension, with this marking his fifth straight game out of the lineup. Forward Jan Jenik, defenceman Cam Crotty, and goaltender Hunter Shepard remain sidelined with their respective injuries. Full roster and lineup details will be available closer to puck drop on the Sens’ social channels (@BellevilleSens).

Who to Watch:

After lighting the lamp for the first time in four games last night, Arthur Kaliyev will look to build momentum on the road. In what was his longest pointless streak of the season, Kaliyev now sits at the 50-point mark, including 30 goals, the most in the AHL. The 2001-born forward has been a model of consistency for much of the season, serving as a go-to option for key offensive moments. With Belleville pushing for a playoff spot, the Senators will need him at his best. Tied for the team lead in multi-point games with 10, the All-Star winger has delivered in big moments all year. With pressure mounting, No. 43 has an opportunity to elevate his game and help will this team to crucial wins as the hourglass slowly runs dry.

With only seven games played for Hartford this season, Juuso Parssinen is an intriguing player to watch in tonight’s contest. The Finnish native has spent most of the year with the Rangers, but with the Olympic break underway, he finds himself back with the Wolf Pack. While not yet a bonafide NHL regular, Parssinen brings an edge to his game and contributes offensively, using his skating ability to create space. With two goals on the year, including one last night, the seventh-round selection will look to build on that performance heading into tonight’s matchup.
