Game Day Build-Up: B-Sens host P-Bruins for first time since 2021-22 season

October 30, 2024

Belleville Senators Game Day Build-Up
Oct.30/24 vs Providence Bruins (NHL Affiliate: Boston Bruins)

The Set Up:

With Halloween Night looming over the Quinte Region the Belleville Senators are hoping they can treat their fans at CAA Arena tonight by tricking their way to a win over the Providence Bruins in their only visit this season. The Senators are coming off a strong weekend that saw them drop just one point over a pair of games against the division-rival Toronto Marlies. They fell in a shootout in Toronto last Friday before getting some payback on home ice last Saturday night. The solid weekend means Belleville has earned at least a point in all but one game this season and has them sitting tied for third place in the North Division with Syracuse, who they’ll see this weekend. Meanwhile, the Bruins have crawled out of hibernation to a 2-4-0-0 start and are looking to improve that record as they begin a three-game Canadian road trip that finishes in Laval this coming weekend.

Previous History:

This is the first time the B-Sens and P-Bruins have seen each other since March 9, 2022, when the B-Sens picked up a 4-1 win over the P-Bruins at CAA Arena. Belleville had also beaten Providence by the same scoreline on the road earlier in the season. Tonight’s game is the ninth all-time meeting between the two sides, with Belleville holding a 5-2-0-1 advantage and a 3-1-0-0 mark at CAA Arena.

Roster Notes:

The transaction wire has been busy over the past few days with a few players being assigned back and forth between Belleville and Ottawa. Most notably, forward Cole Reinhardt, who has led Belleville in scoring with five points this season, was returned from the National Hockey League after notching his first NHL point on the weekend, while fellow forward Zack Ostapchuk also picked up his first NHL point, after being recalled on Tuesday. The B-Sens also signed goaltender Malcolm Subban to a one-year American Hockey League contract, bringing the veteran goaltender and former Belleville Bull back to the city, to shore up the crease. A full list of up to date transactions can be found by clicking here, with full lineup details available via the B-Sens social channels (@bellevillesens) before the game.

Who to Watch:

Belleville forward Matthew Highmore returned to the lineup last weekend and made an immediate impact. While unable to score in the shootout last Friday in Toronto or again on an overtime penalty shot at home on Saturday, Highmore would make up for it by burying the shootout winner against the Marlies later in Saturday’s game. The 28-year-old from Halifax, Nova Scotia was injured in NHL preseason and made his way back to Belleville last week, looking to improve on his 2023-24 numbers that saw him collect 31 points (nine goals, 22 assists) in 43 AHL games, along with two assists in seven NHL games with Ottawa.

The Bruins haven’t scored much early in the season so far, but that’s not at the fault of Jordan Oesterle, who brings a three-game point streak into tonight’s game (two goals, one assist). The 32-year-old from Michigan has points in five of six games since joining the Bruins from Calgary, where he played in 30 AHL games with the Wranglers collecting 19 points (two goals, seven assists), along with two assists in 22 NHL games with the Wranglers’ parent club, the Flames.
