Belly gets back-to-school ready with United Way of Hastings & Prince Edward’s “Backpacks for Success”

Approximately 1,200 students from the Bay of Quinte area will be better prepared for the start of the school year next month, thanks to the United Way of Hastings & Prince Edward’s “Backpacks for Success” program.

The annual program involves local sponsors donating much-needed backpacks and school supplies to help ease some of the financial burden on parents who are preparing their children to return to the classroom. The backpacks are then purchased for $12 each and are filled with nearly $100 worth of grade-appropriate items such as crayons, pencils, paper, binders, calculators, lunch bags, and more.

Registration for this year’s program has closed, but Belly stopped by United Way of Hastings & Prince Edward headquarters on August 12, 2025, to hand out some backpacks and spread some good vibes! More Backpacks for Success pick-up days are happening through the month as well, in Picton, Deseronto, Madoc and Bancroft.
